The Salute to Larry King was ANWC's 7th benefit which raised funds for educational programs and journalism scholarships.
Always a favorite with Washingtonians, the annual event began with a reception that set an energetic pulse for the evening.`

The annual "Newsmaker/Newswriter of the Year" award was established by the ANWC in 1993 to further its scholarship and
education programs. Previous honorees are:  

Helen Thomas, White House correspondent for UPI and distinguished ANWC member
Catherine Filene Shouse, arts patron and founder of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts
Sarah McClendon, White House correspondent for McClendon News Service and distinguished ANWC member
Sam Donaldson, ABC-TV anchor and cohost
Walter Cronkite, author and former CBS anchor
Andrea Mitchell, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent.
