Meet The Club Manager

club manager

Welcome to the American News Women’s Clubhouse, one of the city’s hidden treasures. Over the years, this beautiful house has welcomed many eminent visitors. The inviting surroundings and elegant atmosphere make every guest feel distinguished. Just a few steps away from Dupont Circle, downtown, and Georgetown, the J.H. Cranford House is a four-story townhouse nestled in a quiet street on Embassy Row (located just off of Massachusetts Avenue).

I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and I grew up in a small town 50 miles north of New York City. In 1974, I migrated south to Washington, DC. Now, Burtonsville, Maryland is my home. I come to the ANWC from Baltimore’s Engineers Club, once home to the Garrett family of B&O Railroad fame. Previous to that, I was the General Manager at the University of Maryland’s Rossborough Inn Faculty Club (from 1985 until 1998).

My goals for the club are related to membership, programs, growth, rentals, and parking. I welcome members to stop by, e-mail, or call to share ideas and any suggestions. I am always available to answer questions or show the club. The Club is a unique venue for special occasions or meetings.

Why I Love the Club and Why It Is Perfect For Your Next Event...
The historic four-story French Classical Revival townhouse that is home to the American News Women’s Club is an ideal setting for your next special event.

The house was custom designed and built for a private client by the architects of the Old Executive Office Building. From the exterior of brick and limestone with arched balconies, to the lavish interior finishes of custom milled wood, this house is truly a work of art. The main and second floors of the American News Women’s Club are available for meetings, events and parties. Our main parlor holds 40 for a seated dinner (using the adjoining small room, 50 is possible) while the second floor can accommodate 100 for a stand-up reception.

The space is perfect for wedding parties, rehearsal dinners, showers, engagement parties, corporate meetings and luncheons and retirement events. In addition to our central location, the American News Women’s Club’s home has much to offer:

  • Prime Location
  • French Classical Townhouse
  • Lavishly Designed Interior
  • Reasonable Rates
  • Intimate Event Space
  • Caterer’s Dream Kitchen
  • Elegant Dining Room
  • French Doors
  • Glass Chandeliers
  • Beautiful Crown Moldings
  • Arched Bay Window
  • Marble Fireplace
  • Steinway Piano

Our stately elegance provides the perfect backdrop for Washington events. From business lunches and workshops to private meetings, rehearsal dinners, engagement parties or a gala wedding reception, the ANWC sets the tone for an unforgettable gathering.

Please call me if you have any questions concerning the clubhouse or event planning. I look forward to working with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 202-332-6770 or anwclub@covad.net.

Sincerely,
Randi Dutch, Club Manager
