Theresa A. Werner as the 47th ANWC President
Washington, DC (July 25, 2006) – The American
News Women's Club (ANWC) has elected Theresa A. Werner to be its
President for the 2006-2007 term, effective immediately. She succeeds
Barbara McLeod.
THERESA A. WERNER joined Associated Press Television
in the fall of 2005 as the Domestic Planning Editor for radio and
television, where she is responsible for planning television and
radio coverage in the United States. Prior to joining APTV, Theresa
worked at NBC4 where she was an assignment desk assistant on the
morning news, field producer for special projects, and planning
editor.
She received her undergraduate degree in Communications from
George Mason University. While pursuing a master’s degree
in telecommunications at the University, she spent a year assisting
in the development of the school’s cable television newscast,
Mason Cable News.
In 1995 Theresa launched Starlight Catering, and she continues
to oversee all aspects of the business.
Theresa is a member of the National Press Club and is the chair
of the Professional Development Committee. From 2003 to 2004 she
served as president of the D.C. chapter of American Women in Radio
and Television.
Theresa currently resides
in Herndon, Virginia. She is director of the Cardinal Cloggers
and is an award winning swing dancer. She also enjoys cruising
in her ’57 Chevy.

Founded in 1932, and housed in its historic
headquarters on Washington’s
Embassy Row, the American News Women’s Club is an association
of women in the media professions. The ANWC is a 501(c) (3) organization,
which annually raises funds for scholarships to journalism schools.
The Club has awarded scholarships to Northwestern University’s
Medill School, Gallaudet University, George Washington University,
the University of Maryland, Howard University, and American University.
One
of the nation's oldest press clubs, The American News Women's Club is
a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) offering educational and professional development
programs in support of women in the journalism and communications professions.
The annual ANWC "Helen Thomas Award" benefit gala awards annual scholarships
to journalism schools. In 2003, the organization was named an historic
site in journalism by the National Society of Professional Journalists
(SPJ).
