June Membership Open House This is what ANWC
members and friends had to say …
Thank you so much for creating the evening with Nora! It
was wonderful
and very special. Nora is a leader in the community and one
who proves
you can do better for our health and our environment. It
was great!
Thank you so much for making it all possible last night.
Have a great day! Keri Douglas
The June 7 event at your beautiful clubhouse was awesome! It
was a joy to
hear Chef Nora Pouillon, eat her incredible meal, and mingle with such a
lovely group of women, both club members and guests. I have yet to attend
a function there without being impressed with the food, company, program
and atmosphere. Randi Dutch and board members always make me feel so
welcome.
Well done, ANWC. Maggie Szymanek
Nora wanted me to let you know how wonderful the event was last
night -
she said you did a "wonderful" job bringing it all together. She
was
extremely impressed with the turnout and the number of books sold!
Nice job – last night was terrific!
You're the bestest! love, ginny
And the 2005 Gala Rave Reviews are in...
“Here! Here! I received a lot
of very positive comments from many attendees. They loved
the hotel, the food, the honorees, the roasters, and were wowed
by the great prizes! I think the trip was a big hit!
Thank you Ginny and Paula and your many teams
for a job well done. Take a well-deserved bow! “
---Barb McLeod
My husband, Hank, and I had a lot of fun. The
crowd was friendly and beautifully outfitted, the food was delicious,
the speakers were funny (for the most part), and it
was a treat to have a posh evening to break up the drudgery of everyday
life. We felt like we were in
the midst of a real Washington experience!
--- Maurine Beasley
It was such fun seeing everyone all dressed up
and sitting with and catching up on news from my friend Pat Bergstresser,
home on leave from her position as Director of the International
Press Center at the State Dept. in Baghdad, Iraq, and her guest
Alaa al Safar of the Iraqui newspaper Al Da-awa. The food
was delicious (avocado salmon with basal orange yogurt among other
things as an appetizer!); the good natured stories by America's top
journalist couples kidding "Ben and Sally" let us see
how down-to-earth friends and family people they all are --
and made us feel abit on "the inside". Quite fun!
thanks for all your hard work!
---Peggy Sands Orchowski editor,
CQ
The Dinner was terrific! I particularly
liked the emphasis on couples being the roasters since the Honorees
were a couple. It was fun to watch them together. The
best line of the night was Ben Bradlee's comment that none of the
roasters would be anybody without television.... Special
thanks to all the members/volunteers who made the evening such
a success.
---Joanne W. Young
The food was great! The "silent" gifts
were great, and a lot of effort went into their acquisition. Brava
to the group who was responsible for these wonderful additions.
In summation, we did have a fine roast. A lot
of effort went into it and we have a lot of people to thank for
it. And yes, we do have a great club!
---Nancy Lang
What a great time we had! The ANWC gala
had all the right components for a perfect Washington party --
media celebrities, clever roasts and toasts, devine food and wine, "sparkling" guests,
and the diplomatic corp. Our big investment in raffle tickets
really paid off with two big prizes that we will continue
to enjoy
---Sallie Forman
Weddings at ANWC
The ANWC is an absolutely wonderful place to have
a wedding. Everyone in my family raved about it. The
kids played downstairs in the den, the adults wandered about all
over the second floor.
We had two piano players (one planned,
one who just started spontaneously) use the piano and got to put
up all the decorations we wanted on the stairs and the mantlepieces.
It really was like having it in our home. (If, as my brother-in-law
said, our home was a gorgeous, decorated 18th century looking two-story
in Dupont.)
I especially appreciated all the help you gave
us and the fact that you were always there when we needed you,
but never intruded on the event itself. I know I couldn't
have found that kind of flexibility (plus the set fee for the whole
day) anywhere else.
All your recommendations turned out spectacularly. We
had a fantastic time!
Congratulations to
everyone who worked so hard and so well together toaccomplish this
amazing feat of surpassing our income goal for the benefit. What
a wonderful evening it was for me, and for my friends who attended.
Everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed the program--dazzled by the clever
roaster/toasters and impressed by everything from the prizes to the food and
hotel's service. Thanks to you all! Pam Ginsbach
Several people mentioned to me that yours of last night was the best of the
press dinners they've ever attended. Not just ANWC events, all press dinners.
Congratulations. The Mandarin is spectacular. Bill McCloskey Director Media Relations
BellSouth Corporation
Congratulations. My husband said he couldn't recall a more enjoyable evening
in all the years of going to these types of things. I think most people felt
the same way.See you soon. Nancy Cullen
One super fabulous event. Congratulations! My boss said he enjoyed it much
more than last year.
His direct quote: "The first 10 minutes of last night was better than
the whole dinner last year.I generally don't like Imus, but his vid was a real
hoot." Janis Lamar
The Roast was terrific! The co-chairs, and committee, made this one of the
most outstanding events ever. Congratulations to all. Best wishes, Marj Skinker
The bi-annual meeting with Bonnie Anderson , veteran reporter for CNN and NBC
as guest speaker, was a convivial evening with good fellowship, a marvelous
dinner, and a dynamic talk. Bonnie entertained and enthralled us with fascinating
facts and tales from her book, "News Flash," especially "Infotainment," and
remained to answer many questions during dessert and coffee. It was a gala
event planned and presented by Randi that reminded us all that the American
News Women's Club is truly a very special place with inviting and important
programs.
--Kay Shaw Nelson
I enjoyed this event because the
speaker demanded justice in news business. I like the activity
and management of the ANWC, each time everything is perfect because
of Randi and many other best people in the Club like Barbara McLeod
ect.
--Svetlana Orekhova.
It was a highly entertaining program.
The give and take between the speaker and the ANWC members was
so lively we finally had to bring it to a close, reluctantly. This
is what ANWC membership is all about.
--Joan Walsh Cassedy
Every journalist should have the integrity, clarity,
courage and high-minded thinking of Bonnie Anderson. To have her
come to our Club to share her experience and insight into the real
story behind broadcast news was a privilege. To experience her
passion and socko presentation revived my enthusiasm for our business.
'Twas another one of those not-to-be-missed evenings ANWC members
are so lucky to be offered on a regular basis we practically take
it for granted. What a gift!
--Ginny Daly
Dynamic and forthright Bonnie Anderson gave us
a vivid behind-the-scenes view of how our television news is managed,
and of special interest to ANWC, how this winner of seven Emmys
has experienced first-hand the "managing" of the women
who bring us television news. Stimulating evening and delicious
dinner.(Bonnie asked:"Does Randi always cook such great food?"
Answer: yes.
--Donna Shor
Randi,
I had the pleasure of attending ANWC's event with Christina Rubalcaba this
past week and wanted to thank you for hosting the affair. It was wonderful
to hear the insights of Bonnie Anderson, and her experience in the news business.
Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you at another ANWC event soon.

What
some of our rental clients are saying ..
Dear Randi
Thank you for your email. I wanted to also thank you very much for helping
us with our event.
Although I couldn't attend I have had feedback from our guests and staff and
they all loved the venue (apparently it was perfect for the type of event we
were hosting so I'm so glad I came across you on the Web!) and commented on
the high quality of the food and hospitality.
We are looking to host the event on a yearly basis now and it is likely to
be in Washington around the time of the PSP meeting that was taking place just
prior to the 11th February, so you may well hear from me again in the future!
With many thanks again,
Best wishes

Dear Randi,
I wanted to thank you for providing such wonderful
help and such a wonderful space for our wedding reception
on the 24th. We only heard compliments about what
a great setting it was and everyone felt very much at home.
If you find anything floating around, like envelopes or packages,
that may have our names on....I think we may have lost a few
gifts between your place and their final destination. I have a feeling
that happens often in the confusion.
Many, many thanks for a wonderful experience! I will gladly
recommend your venue to others.
Barbara Van Woerkom/Brian Naylor
Dear Randi
Thank you so much for all your help (and understanding)
in putting together Isaac's bar mitzvah party at the club. We got
many, many comments on how beautiful the house is, and both the
kids and the grownups appreciated the younger generation having
a headquarters of their own on the first floor.
I truly appreciate your helping us sort out the
liquor license situation. Please convey our heartfelt gratitude
as well to the board member who helped us out.
I've already told Steve that we need to come up
with another occasion to have a celebration there!
Best,
Judy Pasternak
Randi,
I know I speak for everyone at last night's JOTW/DC
event when I
say thank you so very much for making the American News Women's Club
available to us. It is truly a wonderful facility, and it was an honor
to be in a place where so many historic women have been. The great
photographs on the walls showed that we were in great company.
Again, thanks so much.
Dee
Randi,
I just want to tell you how much we appreciated
your help and the use of the club for Elena's birthday party last
Saturday night. It was perfect. We and all of our guests had a
wonderful time. And people could not stop talking about the setting.
I cannot tell you how many times I was asked, "where did you
find this place?" And your suggestion to use Medcatering was
also a winner. This was a most special evening for us. We had friends
and family - and some friends we had not seen in 20 or more years
- make the trip to DC for this event - and it was everything we
had hoped it would be. Thanks again for all your help.
I think we found and took everything that we brought with us but if you could
be on the lookout for anything that we might have overlooked - such as a gift,
that would be greatly appreciated.
