The stately four-story home of the American News Women's Club, built at the turn of the century, is frequently the gathering place for Washington's media leaders, resident dignitaries, corporate pacesetters and distinguished foreign visitors.

For fine entertaining in the Washington tradition, the American News Women's Club offers an eloquent setting conveniently located in the heart of Washington's Embassy Row, three and one-half blocks northwest of the Dupont Circle metro. The clubhouse is centrally located to the many attractions and accommodations of our Nation's Capital.

Host to world-famous luminaries over the past forty years, the Club's home features an elegant and warm setting for a variety of occasions. Accommodating as many as one-hundred for a standing cocktail buffet or seated, thirty-six in the formal dining room.

From management retreats and seminars to meetings, news conferences and ceremonial occasions, from intimate dinners to gala wedding receptions, the ANWC headquarters surrounds its guests with the comfort of the grand architecture of our forefathers.

stairs The entry hall and staircase are a perfect backdrop for memorable photographs, while the dining room, parlor and drawing room on the second floor provide an ideal environment for formal and informal events alike.

Coming up the stairs from the black-and-white tile entry hall, visitors will see the Steinway grand, walls hung with works of international artists and historic photographs of First Ladies who have been members. Fireplaces, high ceilings and three long French windows in the drawing room opening to petite balconies are a few of the Club's gracious appointments. Access Floor Plan




One of the nation's oldest press clubs, The American News Women's Club is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) offering educational and professional development programs in support of women in the journalism and communications professions. The annual ANWC "Helen Thomas Award" benefit gala awards annual scholarships to journalism schools. In 2003, the organization was named an historic site in journalism by the National Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)."
