Dear Members and Friends of the ANWC,
We hope you are having a wonderful summer. First and foremost I would like to extend
resounding thanks to so many of you for your support and care for the ANWC as we blazed into
our 95th year. Our new goal as we head into this next year is more board and membership
engagement. We know you are with us.
I am happy to report that we had a solid fiscal year last year. Our big fundraising win from our
Trailblazers Extravaganza gala May 11 which offset much needed expenses for upgrades and
repairs for our elevator and third floor capital improvements, made way for a balanced budget for
the first time in many years. Thank you to all of our ANWC trailblazer recipients and our
sponsors!
Also in the tradition of giving, we most recently received modest bequests from the estates of our
beloved trailblazer member Betty Dukert, the first woman executive producer of NBC’s Meet
the Press, and from our past president, Nancy Lang who had a long career at Voice of America.
We are grateful for every dollar donated to support our efforts. Thank you trailblazers.
Our new Board this year is committed to our storied tradition of bringing to the Club great
speakers and programs. We promise to bring you more. Meantime, please renew your
membership, sign-up to be on a Committee and/or join us for more activities this year. We are
thrilled and grateful always for you to continue to be a part of things. Attached is your renewal
form and our latest edition of ShopTalk. You can also renew your membership on our website.
It’s going to be a great year. We look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Grateful always,
Claire Swift

Dear Members and Friends of the ANWC,
Thank you for the honor of serving as your acting president for the 2025-2026 year.
This year, the board plans to bring in new members, exciting programs, and lots of energy to continue our relevance to today’s issues, while honoring our storied 95-year history.
I am grateful to Claire Swift, Jean White and the Board for the exciting programs from the past year.
Our Annual Meeting & State of the Media Program highlighted two former Excellence in Journalism (EIJ) honorees, Susan Page (EIJ, 2017) on her book about Barbara Walters (EIJ, 2013). The evening was an exhilarating opportunity to talk about famous woman in the media and set the tone for another great year of trailblazing.
The 2025 EIJ award honored the achievements of the Washington Post's Petula Dvorak, providing the chance to focus on local journalism, which is so important today. Our scholarship winners from American, Georgetown and George Washington universities are the best of the next generation, and the Club is honored to support their work. We are grateful to all of those who supported and attended our annual signature event. Please see our attached 2025 Shop Talk for photos of our excellent programs and events this year. As the board begins planning for 2025-2026, please renew your membership. The year, we promise you relevant programs and opportunities to be with news makers. We are planning for the best year yet!
And to achieve that goal, we need your expertise, support, and renewal now more than ever! Sign up for a committee or two. Look for our notices by email, and as always, check for updates at anwc.org and/or follow us on social media.
I look forward to embarking on this new year with all of you.
Gratefully,
Mary Catherine Andrews
Acting President, Past President (2019- 2022)

Dear Members and Friends of the ANWC,
I am thrilled to be returning as president of the ANWC once more to manage a new year of “Saving History” on the heels of our epic 90th Anniversary gala honoring Bob Woodward, also the 50th year of Watergate. It was a successful evening in many ways for the Club, and we have shared some wonderful moments in our new summer issue of Shop Talk (attached). We are particularly thankful to our members, supporters, and sponsors large and small.
I’m honored to be working with you all in every capacity this year to remember, revive and restore our Club's illuminating history through the decades. In that order, we will be holding historical (in person and Covid friendly) programs and we will be planning a special day at the Club where people bring in, mail in, or share ANWC history. Hal Matson has joined the Board again, this year, as Vice President and head of the History Committee.
Please renew your membership (attached), answer a few fun survey questions on the renewal invoice, kindly sign up for a committee and/or bring a friend to our next program and consider sponsoring a new member. We need your support, feedback, and expertise now more than ever.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the Club for what promises to be an exciting year.
With appreciation,
Jean White
